It’s About Time!

I have made a vow to post on this blog every day for the next year.  April Fools!!  That will never happen…

Well, after months and months of laziness I am finally going to post on this site again.  I think I got overwhelmed that people were actually reading this, and thought I had to have something overwhelmingly interesting to write about.  I have since figured out that my life isn’t that interesting, so I might as well write anyway.  🙂

Life is busy as usual with work, church and the girls’ activities.   Also, Tim and I are getting ready to take 18 others to Central America in June.  Who knew that the organization skills that usually come so easily to me would abandon me while getting ready for this mission trip?  I think God is trying to teach me to be flexible, but I am rigidly abstaining.  Rules are made to be followed, right? Am I the only person in this world (besides my husband) that thinks that way?

I have to brag a moment.  My girls swam in the Junior Olympics in San Antonio last weekend.  The natatorium was completely packed out with swimmers, but my girls were calm through the whole two days of craziness.  Their team, the Metro Marlins, won the whole meet!  Both girls swam very well, and finished with several awards.  I am so proud of them for working so hard, and putting their heart and soul into what they do.

That’s enough for now.  Hopefully, it won’t be so long before I post again.

Show Update

Just a quick update.  PALMs will perform in Konnection Kidz on November 30th.  We are also going to be very busy on December 21st, so please block off that day.  It looks like we will perform our Christmas show twice at Konnection Kidz that morning and once that evening for parents and family members.  The details are in the works, but somewhere around 5 PM at Hill Country Christian School for a potluck dinner and show.  I promise, as soon as we are sure about everything I will send detailed information home from practice!

What Did He Ever Do To You?

This is the sight that greeted us when we walked out our back door last week.

img_7024Poor Santa!  Cut in half and stapped down to a trailer!

All he ever wanted to do was bring toys to good girls and boys.

My Staff is Crazy!

OK, all of you who read my whiney post earlier this year may have taken the title of the blog the wrong way when you read it.  Right now we are in San Antonio at the American Dental Association Meeting.  This is a big meeting for us-usually these are held in places like Hawaii or San Francisco.  So, for us to be able to travel an hour down the road and experience this is really cool.  There are really famous speakers, and lots of brand new technology.  Yesterday I stood by an Italian dentist trying to communicate through a translator to a vendor.  I really didn’t care about the product, I just wanted to hear his accent and his Italian.  🙂

Anyway, back to the title… Last night we stayed in San Antonio and did a little office bonding.  Who knew my staff were this fun?  I think they found out I’m not the stick in the mud they thought I was either.  Here are a few pictures.  I won’t show the really funny ones because I don’t have their permission, but let’s just say some people around us probably thought we had had more than just chocolate cake to make us laugh the way we were!

Is This Better?

Before yesterday I hadn’t written a blog in almost two months.  BAD ME.  The last blog I did write was whiney and pitiful and I didn’t want a repeat of that but couldn’t think of anything fun or exciting to write about.  So, yesterday I wrote about a cool dental procedure and people thought it was gross. 🙂

Today, I am revamping a little. Nothing overwhelming, just a little beauty from my “backyard”.  Enjoy…

My Job Is Fun :)

Today a man came in with a tooth that was badly broken and useless. Thanks to modern technology, we extracted the tooth, cut off the root and cemented his own tooth in between the other two.  This is not a permanent fix, but now he doesn’t have to go out with a large gap when he smiles, and he can save for a more permanent solution while the area heals and the bone fills in.  It is procedures like this that make me glad I’m a dentist.

Help Me! I’m Frustrated and I Can’t Cheer Up!

This is going to be a gripey blog, so if you are having a good day, skip it.

I got up this morning and everything seemed good. I walked outside to see the most glorious sunrise. It was all pink and gold. Beautiful!! I thanked God for such a gift and prayed for the safety of my youngest who is away at camp. All was good in the world.

I walked in to work and paid some bills. Not a fun thing to do, but good to get off my list before the day started. I kept noticing it getting later and later and the rest of the office was still dark. By 8 minutes til 8 (when we open the front door) the first staff arrives. Now, I know I should be thankful, but since I made a decree a month ago that we would have a morning meeting at 7:45 the fact that nobody shows up until after that time gets under my skin.

A month ago we had a couple of patients come without taking their medicine, a couple of missed lab cases and it seemed the office was falling apart. So, I took matters into my own hands, and made up a Morning Meeting Sheet and assigned each staff member about three things to get ready for the meeting the next morning. ONLY ONE PERSON IS COMPLETING THEIR SHEET! AND NOBODY IS SHOWING UP FOR THE MEETING! UGH!!!

I know, I know, I’m the boss and I should just take charge and quit whining. I am not a confrontational person. I have a tendency to hold it all inside. I just expect people to do their jobs. Today, when I ran the meeting AGAIN, I said very calmly “I have assigned sheets for morning meeting to be held at 7:45 am. It is not my responsibility to run the meeting or call the meeting. When all of you decide to get it together for Thursday call me, I will be in my office.” And I walked out.

What should I do if it doesn’t happen again Thursday? Please give me advice…
